NEW PRODUCTION OF THE HELLO GIRLS TO RECEIVE OUT OF TOWN TRYOUT
STIRRING TALE OF AMERICA’S FIRST WOMEN SOLDIERS TO PLAY LIMITED ENGAGEMENT AT SYRACUSE STAGE
Producer Michael Cassel today announced THE HELLO GIRLS, a new American musical inspired by the incredible true story of the first women to join the U.S. Army as bilingual telephone operators during WWI, will open the season at the celebrated Syracuse Stage this fall.
“Undeniably inspirational….Move over, Mean Girls and Wicked: There’s a new musical exploding with grrrl power, female camaraderie and uplifting songs, and it teaches an essential piece of history to boot.”
– Time Out
Originally commissioned by Prospect Musicals in New York City, THE HELLO GIRLS opened off-Broadway in 2018 to coincide with the centennial anniversary of the groundbreaking journey taken by the real-life ‘hello girls’, from the frontlines in France to their decades-long battle for recognition.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be working with our friends at Syracuse Stage to bring a brand-new production of THE HELLO GIRLS to audiences in New York,” Michael Cassel said. “With its opulent score and the compelling story of these trailblazing women, I know THE HELLO GIRLS will inspire and captivate audiences in a truly unforgettable way.”
It’s 1918 and as the world plunges further into unprecedented catastrophe, Grace Banker works as a telephone operator in New York City, proving herself more than capable in a male-dominated industry. But when the U.S. Army recruits her to lead a group of women directing communications on the frontlines in France, she and her fellow ‘hello girls’ will have to prove themselves again and again if they are to convince the top brass—and the country—that they belong in the fight. This new American musical reminds us that in the battle against hopelessness and hate, no weapon can match the indefatigable human spirit.
THE HELLO GIRLS is a bold, thrilling new musical that brings to life a forgotten chapter of history with heart, heroism, and a rich jazz and ragtime infused score. Set against the backdrop of WWI, this electrifying production shares the incredible story of pioneering women who shattered barriers and played a vital role in military communication.
“…a rather thrilling thing — smart, human and sardonically feminist…”
– The New York Times

Featuring powerful storytelling, unforgettable music, and a spirit of resilience, THE HELLO GIRLS is an unmissable theatrical experience that celebrates courage, connection, and the fight for recognition in a time of conflict.
