Michael Cassel is an internationally recognised producer and entertainment executive. He formed his company, the Michael Cassel Group, to produce and present the world’s greatest musical and theatrical productions, live entertainment experiences, marquee events and concert attractions.
Current productions include the first international touring production of the world’s #1 musical, Disney’s The Lion King. After triumphant seasons in Manila, Singapore, South Korea (Daegu, Busan and Seoul) and Taipei, will present engagements in Bangkok and Hong Kong with additional cities to be announced.
Michael Cassel is the Executive Producer of the Australian premiere production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child now playing exclusively in Melbourne at the Princess Theatre. The record-breaking play is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.
In partnership with Live Nation, Michael Cassel presents Australian comedian, actor and social media superstar Celeste Barber: Challenge Accepted to Australian and New Zealand theatres this September.
In October 2019, the acclaimed international spectacular, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will feature over 1500 performers with four shows only at ANZ Stadium.
Tony® and Olivier Award-winner, ‘Disney Legend’ and musical theatre royalty Lea Salonga: In Concert will perform in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in November 2019, following her sold-out 2017 concert tour.
International award-winning, ARIA Hall of Fame and Order of Australia recipient Tina Arena will perform as part of the Sydney Coliseum Theatre’s Opening Programme in December 2019.
Michael will produce the opening celebration of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020, with celebrations launching the first match of the tournament between Australia and India at the Sydney Showground Stadium in February 2020.
In March 2021, Michael Cassel will premiere the landmark, multi-award-winning musical Hamilton at Sydney Lyric Theatre.
Previously, Michael produced the five-times Helpmann Award®-winning Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (including “Best Musical), the 10th Anniversary Tour of the Australian musical, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the Australian premiere of Cyndi Lauper’s acclaimed Kinky Boots, the Australian and Asian tour of Singin’ In the Rain, and presented Lea Salonga in Concert in partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and Darren Criss: Intimate and Live. Michael was Executive Producer of Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production of Les Misérables, which won the Helpmann Award® for “Best Musical” before embarking on an Asian tour.
On Broadway, previous productions include Pretty Woman: The Musical directed by Tony Award®-winning director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots); and The Cher Show, with respected Broadway producers Jeffrey Seller (Hamilton) and Flody Suarez (What’s New Pussycat).
In addition to his theatrical interests, Michael exclusively represents former Australian Prime Minister, The Hon. Julia Gillard AC, former Olympian and global sporting administrator, Lord Sebastian Coe CH, KBE and media personality, Sami Lukis.
During his ten-year tenure with Disney Theatrical Group, the live entertainment division of The Walt Disney Company, he produced the company’s Broadway stage productions, including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan, AIDA, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid and High School Musical. Michael also supported Disney on Ice and Disney Live! licensed to Feld Entertainment, in international markets.
Michael began his professional career working with Australia’s foremost entertainment entrepreneur and celebrity manager, Harry M. Miller.
Michael lives in Sydney with his wife Camille and their children Eveleigh and Vaughn.
