MICHAEL CASSEL GROUP MARKS MAJOR MILESTONE WITH TWO INTERNATIONAL PREMIERES

BROADWAY HIT HAMILTON’S FIRST INTERNATIONAL TOUR NOW PLAYING IN MANILA AS
& JULIET OPENS IN SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE, 26 September 2023: Leading live entertainment producer Michael Cassel Group has marked a major milestone as it celebrates the launch of two blockbuster productions in Asia.

Last week, HAMILTON began its first ever international tour in Manila featuring cast members drawn from productions all over the world including Broadway, London, the US tours, Germany and Australia.

The production will play The Theatre at Solaire until 26 November in an unprecedented record-breaking run, ahead of a season in Abu Dhabi in January with more cities to be announced soon.

Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, HAMILTON has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre – a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics and education.

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, HAMILTON is based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography and is the story of America then told by America now.

Producer and CEO Michael Cassel said it was an honour to once again join producer Jeffrey Seller in bringing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s global phenomenon to audiences all over the world.

HAMILTON’s life affirming message and theatrical artistry needs to be seen by as many people as possible and I am thrilled that we have been able to assemble such an amazingly talented cast from HAMILTON productions around the world. Audiences deserve to see the same quality production that is currently on stage on Broadway and the West End,” he said. “The response from the audience in the Philippines on opening night was truly incredible and I can’t wait to share it with more audiences as we continue to add dates to HAMILTON’s first ever international tour.

On Saturday, Singapore hosted the Asian premiere of & JULIET – the Broadway smash hit from the Shakespeare of pop, Max Martin, and Schitts Creek’s Emmy award-winning writer David West Read.

Following an acclaimed season in Melbourne, the Australian company travelled to Singapore to share & JULIET’s message of second chances, love and inclusivity all set to some of the biggest pop hits of our lifetime.

Cassel said the reaction from fans in Singapore was extraordinary.

From our first preview we knew Singapore would embrace & JULIET with the same enthusiasm the show has enjoyed in London, Toronto, New York and Melbourne,” he said. “Every night audiences have leapt to their feet to celebrate this incredible heart-rending show and our opening night audiences couldn’t have been more thrilled to have this blockbuster in their hometown.”

Following its Singapore engagement & JULIET will return to Australia where it will open in Perth on New Year’s Eve before its highly anticipated arrival in Sydney from February 2024.

& JULIET sees Shakespeare’s most famous love story remixed with some of the most iconic pop songs of the last three decades in an uplifting story of self-discovery, empowerment and love and begs the question: is there life after Romeo?

Led by Lorinda May Merrypor in the title role alongside Australian music industry legend Rob Mills, music theatre icons Amy Lehpamer and Hayden Tee, star of the stage and ARIA #1 winner Casey Donovan and newcomers, Blake Appelqvist, Jesse Dutlow and Yashith Fernando, the & JULIET cast have had audiences on their feet with joy and awe with Juliet’s new story brought to life through an addictive playlist of pop anthems including Baby One More Time, Roar, Since You’ve Been Gone, Larger Than Life, That’s The Way It Is and Can’t Stop The Feeling.

Following a decade of success in Australia producing smash hit productions including Les Misérables, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Kinky Boots, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and more, international touring has become a significant part of the Michael Cassel Group story.

Previous success stories include the international tour of Les Misérables and the first ever, four-year international tour of Disney’s acclaimed production The Lion King which included engagements in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Singapore, Auckland, Hong Kong, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Seoul, Daegu and Busan.

I passionately believe everybody should have access to world class theatre, ensuring the same quality of the original productions on Broadway and the West End, and it is a privilege to be able to bring these incredible productions to local audiences,” Cassel said.
