MICHAEL CASSEL AM
Producer & CEOMichael Cassel AM is an internationally recognised producer, forming the Michael Cassel Group in 2012.
In Australia, he is currently the producer of Titanique and MJ the Musical and the recently announced Australian premiere of Beetlejuice The Musical.
Michael is the producer of the Broadway premiere of Sydney Theatre Company’s acclaimed production of The Picture of Dorian Gray starring Succession’s Sarah Snook at The Music Box Theatre, following the production’s triumphant run, and Snook’s Olivier Award-winning performance in the West End. Also on Broadway Michael is a co-producer on the new musical Redwood starring and created by Tony and Emmy Award-winning performer Idina Menzel and is a co-producer of MJ the Musical.
Other recent credits include Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – the longest running play in Australian history.
Following its success in Australia, Michael produced the first ever international tour of Hamilton alongside original producer Jefferey Seller, which launched in Auckland in May 2023 and travelled through Asia and the Middle East. Michael produced the first international tour of Disney’s The Lion King which toured for almost five years, playing cities including Manila, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and Bangkok, becoming the first musical to ever be staged in Abu Dhabi. He also produced the first ever Asian tour of & Juliet.
Previous productions include the Australian and international tour of Les Misérables, & Juliet, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the 10th Anniversary Tour of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Australian premiere of Cyndi Lauper’s Kinky Boots, the Australian and Asian tour of Singin’ in the Rain and the Melbourne transfer of Sydney Theatre Company’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Notable television productions include The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo staged at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium and broadcast on the ABC and BBC, A (Very) Musical Christmas a made-for-television event broadcast on the ABC and the opening celebration of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with a live television broadcast audience of 1.6 billion people. Concert tours include Patti LuPone, Celeste Barber, Lea Salonga, Tina Arena, Rita Wilson and Darren Criss as well as the acclaimed Not Now Not Ever events with Julia Gillard in Melbourne and Sydney.
Broadway and West End credits include Almost Famous and, as co-producer: Into The Woods (including US Tour), Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical, The Prince of Egypt, Pretty Woman: The Musical and The Cher Show.

Michael is focused on developing and investing in new content encompassing a growing slate of world-class IP and original shows destined for Broadway, West End and international stages. Michael initiated a commercial ‘First Look Agreement’ for all future works produced by Sydney Theatre Company, providing the opportunity for shows to be transferred or remounted as commercial productions in new markets, with the intention of touring across Australia and internationally.
In addition to the group’s expanding theatrical interests, the company represents former Australian Prime Minister, The Hon. Julia Gillard AC, journalist and broadcaster Liz Hayes, best-selling author Sarah di Lorenzo and media personality Sami Lukis.
Prior to starting Michael Cassel Group, Michael worked for legendary Australian producer and celebrity manager Harry M. Miller and spent ten years with Disney Theatrical Group in Australia and New York.
Michael was appointed a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia (General Division) for significant service to theatre production and is the recipient of a Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) from the University of Wollongong and a Doctor of the University (honoris causa) from Griffith University.
Michael lives in Sydney with his wife Camille and their children Eveleigh and Vaughn.
