Michael Cassel Group in association with Disney Theatrical Productions are producing the first international tour of the world’s #1 musical, Disney’s THE LION KING.
This land mark musical event premiered in Manila in March 2018 and will head to Singapore this June, before landing in Korea in November. The tour will then continue to Taiwan with additional engagements to be announced soon.
The international tour, which will be performed in English, launched in celebration of THE LION KING’s 20th anniversary on stage and the title’s 25th global production.

The show’s director, costume designer and mask co-designer Julie Taymor said “It is wonderful that these countries in Asia will be able to experience this new international cast of THE LION KING. They’re in for a tremendous treat as the soul of this music will come through these extraordinary performers. Asia is a big part of my life, having spent four years in Indonesia and travelled throughout many countries in the region. It is thrilling to bring this production back to a part of the world that has been a major inspiration in my life.”
Lebo M, who provided additional music, lyrics, vocal score and arrangements to THE LION KING, commented “This international tour will provide the opportunity for audiences around the world to witness this incredible production, featuring South Africa’s greatest talents.”
The principal cast of THE LION KING includes Ntsepa Pitjeng who returns to the role of ‘Rafiki’, having performed the role in the USA, UK, Brazil, and Switzerland productions. Direct from London’s West End production is Mthokozisi Emkay Khanyile in the role of ‘Mufasa’. Also from the United Kingdom is music theatre performer Antony Lawrence as ‘Scar’.
Australian actor André Jewson features as ‘Zazu’; the charismatic New Zealand-born performer Jamie McGregor plays ‘Timon’ and South African favourite Pierre van Heerden returns as ‘Pumbaa’.
Joining the company are six actors from the Philippines. Sharing the role of Young Simba are Julien Joshua M. Dolor Jr., Gabriel P. Tiongson, and Omar Sharief L. Uddin; sharing the role of Young Nala are Sheena Kirtsten Bentoy, Uma Naomi Martin and Felicity Kyle Napuli.
Rounding out the principal cast are South African performers Calvyn Grandling; playing the much-loved role of ‘Simba’; the up-and-coming star Noxolo Dlamini as ‘Nala’; Candida Mosoma returns to the role of ‘Shenzi’; Björn Blignaut as ‘Banzai’; and Mark Tatham as ‘Ed’.
